Who We Are

Welcome to Skagit County Medical Reserve Corps!

Skagit County MRC is part of the nationally recognized Medical Reserve Corps network and a program of Skagit County Public Health. MRC volunteers work to improve local emergency response capabilities, reduce potential public health risks and vulnerabilities, and build community preparedness and resilience. MRC volunteers keep our communities healthy and safe every day.

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of approximately 300,000 volunteers in roughly 800 community-based units located throughout the United States and its territories. The need for the MRC became apparent after September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, when medical and public health professionals, eager to volunteer in support of emergency relief activities, found that there was no organized approach to channel their efforts. As a result, the MRC was established to provide a way to recruit, train, and activate medical and public health professionals and other volunteers to respond to community health needs during disasters and other public health emergencies.

Skagit County MRC originally began in 2006, after a few years, Snohomish County oversaw our volunteers. During the recent pandemic, Skagit County Public Health realized the importance to rebuild our MRC team. Dedicated medical and non-medical volunteers have served over 20,000 hours of volunteer time to support our county during the COVID-19 emergency response. MRC is now a volunteer team under the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management. We are excited to engage and welcome new volunteers to our MRC team.

We appreciate your interest in serving and supporting our vibrant Skagit County community!
